Becoming a Charity Trustee

Our joint Chief Executive, Helen von Trotsenburg shares how she became a charity trustee:

“I have been involved in fundraising for charities for over 40 years, but around three years ago I decided to enter the world of the charity trustee. I joined a small local charity dedicated to helping homeless men, as this is an area where I feel deep concern. A roof over our heads is a human right, not a luxury, and no one should have to be homeless.

However, this charity was facing an uncertain future due to their small size, so they decided to merge with a much larger charity, the YMCA, West Kent, and that merger happened earlier this year.

To my surprise, I was one of three trustees asked to transfer to the new board and I readily accepted. I now look forward very much to getting involved with this wonderful charity and to do what I can to help eradicate homelessness amongst men and women, young and old, in my area. YMCA WK also provides training and education to young people.”
